Our Purpose
Dear friends,
We live in a time of profound change. The world around us is evolving, as are the ways we live, the values we hold, and the perspectives through which we understand our place in it. As old patterns give way to new ones, it becomes increasingly important to remain connected to what has shaped us. To remember where we come from, because without that connection, how can we truly know where we are going or who we want to become?
For us, preserving heritage is not simply about safeguarding objects from the past or looking back at history. It is about understanding who we are, recognizing the stories that have shaped us, and considering what we will leave behind for generations to come.
The association “Keepers of Heritage—A Step Through Time” grew out of this conviction.
A profound inspiration for our beginnings was the Visoki Dečani Monastery and its remarkable milestone of seven centuries of existence. Seven centuries of history, faith, art, and everyday life preserved in one place reminded us of the wealth of what we have inherited and of the responsibility that comes with it.
Through our projects, we seek to explore, document, and share stories of our cultural, historical, and spiritual heritage in ways that are relevant to the present. Our work will take many forms, from research and documentation to photography, video, and exhibitions, as well as digital and educational content. Contemporary tools can help these stories reach wider audiences, but at the heart of everything we do remain the same three things: the person, the place, and the authentic story.
We believe heritage is best preserved when it is understood, shared, and brought into conversation with the present. That is why we want to build this work together with experts, artists, institutions, and everyone who recognizes the value of what has been entrusted to us.
Those who came before us preserved what we have inherited today. Now it is our turn to care for it, understand it and pass it on.
That is our step through time.
